Serious computer problems

My computer refuses to boot anymore. It gets most of the way there, just shy of displaying the desktop, and simply locks up.

I don't know what's causing it, or how to fix it. Right now I'm running off an old installation I was lucky to have on my old hard drive.

What this means is that most everything I have simply is NOT WORKING.

And I have no idea how to get back to operational. This sucketh RBFFDD.

Anyone out there have a copy of Win98 or 2000 they can send me a copy of?
No, I am not interested in 95, Me or XP. They would just make things worse.

I MIGHT have a Win 98 CD laying around that you could have, god knows I don't ues it. I'll look through my mom's CD folder of doom and get back to you ASAP.

I think I have somewhere, but I also feel that by the time I send it to you, it'll be too late.

Any chance of running the OS startup in Safe Mode and fixing it there?
