Fare thee well Panasonic
Aug. 31st, 2005 04:09 pmAs mentioned yesterday, Panasoic only asked 4 of us back for today. This is because we were finishing the last of the microwaves, and there weren't enough to warrant all 8 temps.
Still the usual inspect and tag if damaged bit. We had about 250 microwaves left to do.
Turns out that 250 wasn't enough to warrant even 4 temps. We finished them all in an hour, flat. The surprise in the eyes of the supervisors was very obvious - not that we weren't surprised either!
I was doing knife duty again, and barely kept up with the other 3. We finished at 9:40, and then spent 15 minutes cleaning up and putting tables away. And then we were sent home just before we would have our first break. And paid for 4 hours.
Total days at Panasonic: 9
Total hours clocked: 56.5
Average per day: 6.25 (a full day there is 7)
Moolah earned: $508.50
Not too shabby.
Came home, and Target had already left me a message asking if I wanted work for tomorrow. Gee, they must like me or something. Guess I'm making a good impression. Restoration again. Apparently I'll be digging holes or somesuch while I'm there as well. They're also going to try to send Amir there - he's one of the guys I've been working with at Panasonic. This is all the way out in West Van, though. Middle of futtbuck nowhere. Oh, sorry... YUPPIEVILLE futtbuck nowhere. How nowhere is it? The area doesn't even have BUS STOPS. It operates on Flag Stop service, which is "Stand at the side of the road and flag down the driver as he passes."
Joyous.
I have to be out of here by 6:20 to make it to work by 8. Double joyous. On the upside... at this rate I'll have finished rereading the Nightrunner series by the weekend. I finished Neverwhere (again) this morning and started on Luck In The Shadows (again) and am already 350 pages into it.
Must go to bed earlier tonight. 4 hours sleep may cut it for Panasonic, but not this.
Friday cannot be here soon enough... and yet, it can be too. I'll be babysitting Matthew this weekend as well as having Chris.
Pray for me.
Monday is a holiday. THAT cannot come soon enough!

Date: 2005-08-31 04:20 pm (UTC)2 days. NOT WEEKS AND WEEKS ON END LIKE SOMEONE WHO WILL NOT BE NAMED.
On top of that, I'M GOING FOR A NAP NOW.
No mention... Resto is usually just a day or two.
Why are you snickering?

Date: 2005-08-31 04:36 pm (UTC)It was enough to cause SERIOUS problems. How many times have I unintentionally fallen asleep, huh? :p
Incidentally, you need to read this whole entry and then comment at the relevant place. You MUST. Help the poor girl.

Date: 2005-08-31 05:13 pm (UTC)Is it even possible to get to West Van on the bus by 8? They start running early enough for that? Yeesh, you might have more luck bussing down to Pt. Moody and swimming accross the inlet. I suppose with SkyTrain on your side you might just make it...
Glad you're making a good impression, but really, how could you not ;)

Date: 2005-08-31 07:59 pm (UTC)I turned Alli onto Nightrunner. She's almost finished Traitor's Moon now.
I told her about how you couldn't even read them anymore because you had basically memorized them. She laughed, but understood how one could reread them that much.
Mmmmm Seregil...
- - -
Busses have been checked. I initially called them back saying I couldn't make it because the online trip planner told me the best route would place me nearly 40 mins walk away from the site AT 8am.
They consulted their magic oracles (live people at Translink) and found that there is a bus that stops IN FRONT OF THE SITE... at 7:58am. Leaves Seymour and Georgia (half a block from Granville Stn) at 7:25am.
Mind you, there is no bus within 2 hours before OR after that one bus that goes all the way from Granville to the site.
And no bus after 4:45pm going all the way back. But it is workable.
So I'm out of here by 6:20, down the hill by 6:30, into Braid by 6:40, down to Granville by 7:15. Ugh. I didn't have to leave till 6:30 to bus into RICHMOND.
I hate getting up early. It interferes with my nocturnal tendencies.
How could I not make a good impression? Easy... I'm rather weak and out of shape. I've been bumped out of more than one multi-day placement after the first day for not being good/fast/strong enough. I've mentioned at least one of them here.

Date: 2005-09-01 06:12 am (UTC)Excuse me? There aren't even busses (buses? How the hell do you spell that?) where I live! I was surprised to find out that taxis will go that far! (They do, they have a set rate though, not one per kilometer/minute, because that would bankrupt me.)

Date: 2005-09-01 07:34 pm (UTC)You live in Peterpatch, which is anything but metropolitan :p
You're nearly 2 hours out from Toronto, while West Vancouver is about as far from Vancouver as Scarborough is from TO.
Big difference.
There's no local bus service in Mission, which is about the same distance from Van as 'patch is from TO. Nobody would expect there to be.
For being one of the highest priced areas in the GVRD, and quite densely populated, it is the middle of futtbuck nowhere as far as busses are concerened.
