Well, things are looking up

Finished work today... YAY!
I was VERY important to have on hand because Keith, one of the regular recyclers, wasn't in. So instead of doing my usual "Supplement the regulars" thing, I was doing the whole role. Naturally we got behind, but I did pretty good for only being in 6 hours instead of 8. If I'd been there for 8, I think I could have caught up.
One of the Furniture pricers, Scott, took me aside and said he'd put in a good word and strong recommendation up top, basically saying "We need this guy, he's good". Then near the end of the day, Tammy (Bins pricer) whispered "You're in". When pressed for details, she said "I hear things, and what I hear is you becoming fulltime permanent. But don't say anything, I don't know this and neither do you."
Finally, when I came back from lunch, Jamie (Miscell pricer and oh so HOT [but sadly married... to a Jason]) said "You're really popular. When you're on a break, all you hear is "Jayson Jayson!" all the time. Having you back here makes a BIG difference."
Er, yeah.
So then after work, I talk to Karin and ask her if she wants me in next week. And she says "Yes, Tuesday to Saturday like everyone else." And she said it in kind of a "you should know this" tone... nothing has formally been said about my moving to fulltime (though I'll be getting fulltime hours next week) or permanent, but it IS seeming that way.
I don't know if I'm up to 8 hour days yet (I'm only doing 6 for now) but I'll find out next saturday at least, since I won't have kiddo in the morning and thus can start at 8 instead of 10. Not to mention that Saturday is a Sale Day... eek!
Tina (instructor) said she was proud of me, and asked if I was as well.
And I honestly said yes. Something I haven't been able to say in goddess knows how long.
Add all this to Summer coming... and yeah. Life is strange.

Date: 2004-12-03 09:22 pm (UTC)I like seeing someone with a healthy ego too.
It's rather refreshing to have someone admit that they've done a good job. Maybe someday I'll be able to be that way too :P

Date: 2004-12-03 10:06 pm (UTC)I'm one of the most self-deprecating, low-self-image people you'll ever meet who is still functional in society.
Yes, I do a good job. It's hard for me not to... the work is easy (relatively, it's pretty demanding physically, but it's simple in terms of skill and thought) and most of my mistakes are self-correcting - like not ducking when I'm sweeping under the lines. Ok, I keep doing that one, but still, how hard is it to haul garbage?
It's funny how I'm enjoying the exertion... I used to be a hardcore proponent of "a little exercise never killed anyone, but why take chances?"
The team helps too. It's so much easier to do a good job when you like ALL your co-workers, even the one who continually throws cardboard boxes at my ass (that would be Jamie, the hot but married one). OK, I admit, I goaded her into hitting me with boxes, but still...
And give it up with the self-deprecation. Only I'm allowed to do that.
You do EXCELLENT work, and if I hear otherwise from you again, missy, I'm gonna come down there and bap you upside the head with an inflatable squeaky mallet until you go "meep! I give!"
