Worksite blues
Aug. 10th, 2005 09:51 pmBlah. So sore, so tired. Came home and just napped for several hours. Possibly would have slept clean through the night if not for being woken by the phone.
Work... blah. Warehouse... right. Well, I suppose it was one aspect of warehouse. But basically the entire day was just a container unload. Big long semi trailer full of boxes to stack on skids and forklift out. Easy, right? Yeah, it would be if most of the boxes weren't LIQUIDS of some sort. 40 pound boxes that lack handles, need to be picked up from ground level, and lifted to eye level? Not happy.
Having to lift and place HUNDREDS of these? Under the constant urging of faster faster faster? I don'd do faster well. ESPECIALLY when I don't get breaks. I'm used to 15 mins off every 2 hours. No coffee breaks today. I got to work 3 solid hours till lunch. Then another 4 solid hours after lunch. They did give me an extra half hour pay to make up for no breaks... but I think I would have preferred the breaks, honestly.
So yeah. Spent the entire day unloading this container. I estimate it was about 40 skids.
I was absolutely beat and walking funny when I got off. They also told me they didn't need me back tomorrow or Friday. Said their normal guy should be back tomorrow.
Yeah. Right. I know a brushoff when I see one. *sighs*
Why is it only the jobs I won't go back to want me to come back?
I know I'm not a great worker. I don't have the strength or stamina that most of these people have.
I work hard, as hard as I can. But it's still not good enough. I know this, and expect it. 3 weeks of part-time work is not going to make me Mr Muscles. That'll take time. But... I don't know. I know they're probably calling Target back and saying "The guy you sent out sucks, send someone better." I'm just wondering what effect that will have on my ability to get placements in the future.
Maybe I'm just not cut out for this kind of work, and should just quit while I'm ahead. But I can't quit of course. $1300 in debt says so.
"I owe, I owe, so off to work I go"
Yeah. Why can't I get a nice placement as an office temp that pays better? Oh, right, Target doesn't do office work, just labour. Blah. So much for that idea.
OK... enough angst, enough whining. Emo doesn't suit me. Plus I don't have the fashion sense for it anyways.

It's a Skippy's List style list of Things Mr. Welch Is No Longer Allowed To Do During An RPG. If you're a gamer, you MUST read it. And then die, repeatedly, from laughter.
Is it sad that I get all the references?
My legs hurt and I have to be up at 7 to call Target for more work. Watch it be doing cleaning downtown. My luck would have it that way. Or if I'm extra lucky, doing a container unload somewhere!
Double blah.
OK, really done whining now. Clicking submit before I can angst more. *click*
