Read or Die The TV
Nov. 13th, 2006 04:47 amSo I just finished watching ROD the TV in a bout of insomnia... and I have to say I'm disappointed.
Not that it's bad. It's actually quite good, with a rich and involved plot.
I'm just disappointed because it's utterly and completely unlike the original Read or Die OVA.
I loved ROD for it's quirky characters, goofy plot and crazy pulp action. It was fast! It was exciting! It had action! And adventure! And warranted all those exclaimation marks!
ROD the TV... didn't. The first episode sucked you in with it pretty quickly... but after that, it was pretty fleeting. Aside from a couple moments through the series (mainly the 2 part Twilight of the Papers), the action was pretty well non-existant. The series was heavy on the layered plot, and intrigue - very psychological stuff. Which was interspersed with purely slice-of-life episodes, such as Anita's class spending the night in the library hoping to catch a poltergeist. There's chatting and some romantic drama, but nothing actually happens. The entire episode could be skipped, and the viewer would be none the wiser.
Like I said, it's a great series... but not what I was hoping for.
Now I have to decide what to watch next. I want something fluffy.
I think I'll watch Gunsmith Cats.
